Thanks to Children's Claritin for sending me some goodies to host a "Spring in Your Step" Mom Meet Up. The kit included a lot of great information including a 2013 Preparedness Checklist & Tips. Below are some of the tips and resources on the list to help keep you prepared in 2013.
Automobile Safety: Regular maintenance of your car is important for efficiency and safety. Visit www.safercar.gov to learn more about car maintenance.
CPR: Visit the American Heart Association at www.heart.org for in person or online classes.
Family Doctor Visits: Be sure to schedule family doctor visits, as well as well-woman visits. Some areas to focus on would be immunizations, blood pressure, cholesterol and eye exams.
Flu Season: Visit www.flu.gov to learn more about protecting you and your family during flu season.
Home Safety: Fire extinguishers, fire alarms, carbon monoxide detectors: Visit www.usa.fema.gov/fireservice/prevention_education/campaigns
Medicine Safety: Dispose of expired medicines in a responsible manner. Visit www.fda.gov for tips.
Natural Disasters: For natural disaster preparedness visit: www.ready.gov/natural-disasters or www.emergency.cdc.gov/disasters
Sports Safety: Educating yourself on sports safety will help you and your family make sound decisions when it comes to sports activities. Information can be provided by visiting online websites or speaking with sports organizers in your area.
Spring Cleaning & Allergy Removal: Visit the Kids & Allergies section of the Claritin site at www.claritin.com to find out more information.
Yard Safety: Be sure to trim trees and remove debris. During serious storms these items are dangerous if they become airborne. After rainstorms clear free standing water to avoid mosquitoes. Also consider removing trees and plants that may trigger allergies.
Everyone had a great time and learned a lot of new information. With all of us being moms at the meet up we all agreed that it is hard sometimes to find time for yourself. We are used to taking care of others and usually overlook our well being. Claritin came up with three lifestyle sessions to engage in during our meet up and encourage us to strive for wellness and a re-energized year.
These included an exercise session, healthy cooking - healthy eating session and a pampering session. During the exercise session we took the kids outside for slip and slide and swimming in the pool. Some of the moms joined in. For the healthy cooking - healthy eating session each guest brought their favorite healthy snack or dish. I made guacamole, grilled chicken kabobs, and made a fruit tray. Some of the items my guests brought included hummus, turkey and cheese tray, veggie tray and black bean dip. I also made some kid friendly Pina Colada's. During the pampering session we discussed ways we like to pamper ourselves. I like to pamper myself by taking a long hot bath with a cup of chamomile tea. I also printed out recipes for everyone to take home for homemade beauty regimens.
Below are a few photos from the meet up.
